As the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has sought more names for the post of AIIMS Delhi director, Dr Randeep Guleria will continue to lead the charge for a few more months.
AIIMS-Delhi director Dr Randeep Guleria is likely to continue to lead the charge for a few more months as a PM-led panel has asked for a wider range of names to appoint the next AIIMS Delhi director to the post.
The tenure of Dr Guleria, was slated to end on March 24 but was extended by three months till June 24, as the PM-led panel was in the process of scrutinising candidates for the major post. India Today has learnt that the names proposed earlier were sent for wider consultative feedback. However, more names are now being sought.
The three AIIMS doctors whose names were recommended earlier were Nikhil Tandon, head of the department of endocrinology, Rajesh Malhotra, Chief of AIIMS Trauma Centre and the head of the department of orthopaedics and Pramod Garg, professor in the gastroenterology department.
The names that were shortlisted earlier by the search cum selection committee and approved by the institute body were sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for approval.
The Appointments committee of the cabinet headed by the Prime Minister has therefore sought more names. Until such time, Dr Randeep Guleria will continue to hold the post at AIIMS Delhi, according to sources.
Dr Guleria was appointed as AIIMS Director for a term of five years on March 28, 2017.
