Attacking the Centre over the rise in targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said the BJP government should lay out its plan on how to stop the atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday slammed the Centre over the recent escalation in targeted killings in Jammu and Kashmir, and said the government has no plan for Kashmiri Pandits.
“The BJP government has failed. The era of 1990 has come again. They [government] don’t have any plans. Whenever there is a murder in the Valley, news comes that the Home Minister has called a high-level meeting. Enough of these meetings, now we need action,” said Kejriwal at an AAP Jan Akrosh rally in Delhi.
Kejriwal charged that whenever the BJP comes to power, it triggers an exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from Jammu and Kashmir. “In the last 30 years, the BJP was in power twice in Kashmir and both times Kashmiri Pandits had to migrate. We are seeing all over the country how they only do dirty politics,” he said.
After Rahul Bhat was gunned down by terrorists in Budgam, many Kashmiri Pandit government employees took to the streets to demand that they be relocated to safe places. Instead of ensuring their safety, the BJP administration cracked down on the protests, alleged Kejriwal. This has doubled the peoples’ suffering, he added.
The AAP chief exhorted the government to cancel the bond of the Kashmiri Pandits who were employed under the prime minister’s special package and posted in the Valley. They should be given security cover and all their demands should be met, he added.
“Kashmiris are not bonded labourer. They should be free to live and work wherever they want… The BJP government at the Centre should lay out its plan on how to stop the genocide,” said Kejriwal.
He went on to say that he has sought a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the ongoing tensions in Kashmir and understand what plans he has regarding the restive region and its people.
Since May 1, at least eight civilians have been killed in targeted attacks by terrorists in Kashmir. In light of the rising violence, the state government ordered the transfer of 177 Kashmiri Pandit teachers posted in Srinagar to safer locations.
