In an exclusive interview with India Today/Aaj Tak, an eyewitness to the beheading of tailor Kanhaiya Lal by two men recounted the grisly attack, for the first time on camera.

The eyewitness, who worked at Kanhaiya Lal’s shop, said the two accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammed, came on a bike bearing number 2611 and parked it right in front of the shop

“When they entered the shop, Kanhaiya Lal, a co-worker and I were present inside the shop. They had come on the pretext of getting clothes stitched. All of a sudden, they attacked Kanhaiya Lal,” said Sharma.

“We shouted, trying to get some help but no one from outside came for our help,” he added.

The eyewitness said he hit one of the attackers. His co-worker tried to run out of the shop but was hit on the back by a weapon, which caused him injuries.

“No help came forward from outside despite our pleas. The accused fled away on the same bike,” the eyewitness said.

The harrowing incident was caught on the CCTV camera inside the shop, which was functional at the time of the crime, he said.

UDAIPUR MURDER CASE SO FAR

Tailor Kanhaiya Lal was beheaded on Tuesday by two cleaver-wielding men, Muhammad Riaz and Ghouse Muhammad, who posted a grisly video of the crime online claiming responsibility for the deed. Both the accused were arrested in Rajsamand hours after the crime.

The two accused had links to Dawat-e-Islami, a religious movement based in Pakistan, sources said.

A case has been registered under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and is being investigated by the NIA with support from the Anti-Terrorist Squad and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Rajasthan Police.

On Friday, an Udaipur court transferred the murder case to the NIA, which brought the two main accused to Delhi. They will be produced in court today.

In addition to Muhammad Riaz and Ghouse Muhammad, three more suspects have been arrested and 10-plus people have been rounded up in connection with the case.
