The Odisha government was granted relief by the Supreme Court regarding the reconstruction happening around the Jagannath Puri temple. A plea was filed in the Supreme Court alleging that illegal excavation and construction work was being conducted by the Odisha government at Shree Jagannath temple in Puri.
The Supreme Court dismissed the petition regarding the construction with a fine on both petitioners in the case.
The court, in its order today, said that all petitions were being filed in the name of Public Interest Litigation (PIL), which was not correct. The SC frowned upon the practice of filing frivolous PILs and said that it was an abuse of the law.
The court has imposed a fine of one lakh on both the petitioners.
