Deepak, wanted in connection with the Mohali RPG attack, has direct ties to Khalistani extremist Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda, who is believed to have a hand in the incident.
Punjab Police is on the hunt for two persons of interest for their alleged involvement in the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the headquarters of the force’s Intelligence Wing in Mohali earlier this month.
The first suspect, identified as Deepak, is a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, police sources said. He is directly related to Khalistani extremist Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda, who is believed to have staged the attack.
Sources said that on the day of the incident, Deepak was handed the grenade launcher by another suspect present near the intelligence wing headquarters in Mohali’s Sector 77.
According to reports, several security agencies across the country are on the Deepak’s trail as he is an alleged aide and abettor to wanted terrorists.
The second person wanted in the RPG attack has been identified as Guddu, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. A manhunt has been launched to nab him. Both Deepak and Guddu are key persons of interest who are vital to cracking the case, sources said.
Punjab Police has arrested five people in connection with the RPG attack and said a nexus of militant outfit Babbar Khalsa International, Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and gangsters is behind it.
Police suspect that the RPG attack in Mohali was orchestrated by gangster turned ISI stooge Harvinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda. A native of Punjab’s Tarn Taran, the 35-year-old is currently believed to be hiding in Pakistan.
His name came up when a terror plot was foiled recently with the arrest of four suspected Pakistan-linked terrorists in Haryana’s Karnal.
Rinda’s involvement was also detected in a hand-grenade attack at the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) office in Nawanshahr last month.
